Rihanna and Beyoncé presented their new music via Jay Z’s Tidal service. Beyoncé unveiled her Die With You, followed by Rihanna’s American Oxygen music video, which also premiered exclusively on Jay Z’s streaming service.

Beyoncé’s Die With You appeared to be a sparse piano ballad written as a 7th wedding anniversary gift to her husband, Jay Z. As for Rihanna’s latest single, it followed the release of her Bitch Better Have My Money and came with a more political message. It turned out that its video is fusing together footage of historical events in US history, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Barack Obama’s inauguration and the Ferguson riots. It should be noted that Rihanna’s single can only be accessed through Tidal streaming service, while the ripped footage of Beyoncé’s Die With You showed up on YouTube soon after it was presented on Tidal.

Tidal is a new streaming service, which was officially launched just a few days ago and charges up to $19.99 a month. It belongs to a well-known music artist Jay Z, who purchased it in March 2015 and claimed he was hoping to create a platform that will “allow art to flourish”.

However, the service has already got some criticism: one artist who noted Tidal’s potential vulnerability in the face of piracy was Lily Allen. She expressed her concerns on Twitter, saying that although she loves Jay Z, Tidal is too expensive compared to other popular streaming services. The problem is that since Jay Z has made the biggest artists exclusive to Tidal, listeners may just turn back to pirate websites and torrent trackers. At the same time, the emerging artists may suffer as a result.
