The viral clip of the new New York Congresswoman dancing in 2010 has helped the song soar once again

Phoenix‘s ‘Lisztomania’ has experienced a huge surge in streams after archive footage of Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez dancing to the song went viral earlier this month.

The French band last week congratulated Ocasio-Cortez on her recent election to the House of Representatives after they became linked with the politician following the resurfacing of the ‘Boston University Brat Pack Mashup’ video in 2010, which starred Ocasio-Cortez.

The clip was anonymously re-shared with the intention of smearing Ocasio-Cortez, but the unexpected popularity of the video – where she can be seen dancing to ‘Lisztomania’ – had quite the opposite effect. See the video in question below.

According to Nielsen Music (via Billboard), the track received a 192% increase in on-demand streams in the US in the past week – jumping from 1.07 million streams in the frame ending January 3 to 3.13 million in the week ending January 10.

Ocasio-Cortez had her own response to the attempt to besmirch her name by dancing in the halls of Congress on January 4. The politician posted a video of herself briefly dancing and lip-syncing to Edwin Starr’s classic ‘War’ with the message “wait till they find out Congresswomen dance, too!”

Last week, Phoenix became the latest music act to apologise for having previously worked with R. Kelly.
