Kanye West donates 10 million dollars to Volcano crater art project
Rapper recently controversially pulled out of this year's Coachella
Kanye West has reportedly donated $10 million to the Turrell Art Foundation to help fund artist James Turrell’s Roden Crater Project.
In a statement to The Wall Street Journal, West said that he wants the Roden Crater Project to be “experienced and enjoyed for eternity.”
Turrell began work on the dormant volcano located in north Arizona in the 1970s. Since then, he has worked to transform the crater, into an observatory. He was reportedly “thrilled” with West’s donation.
Turrell’s website describes the project as: “Organised as a distinct set of changing experiences of light, Turrell’s intervention in the natural form of Roden Crater consists of a series of chambers, pathways, tunnels, and openings onto the sky from within and around the crater’s surface.”
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that West reportedly pulled out of headlining Coachella because the festival wouldn’t build him a giant dome to perform on. The rapper is yet to comment on the claims.
The 1975, Solange, Khalid, Janelle Monae and Chvrches are also set to take to stages across Coachella’s site this year.
West last headlined the event in 2011.
The sell-out festival will take place over two weekends, 12-14 April and 19-21 April 2019. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the event and tickets sold out in six hours.
