There's a high new entry for The Beatles as well

Muse have shot straight to Number One in the UK albums chart with their eighth album ‘Simulation Theory’.

The Teignmouth trio won a week-long battle with Olly Murs to claim the top spot. Six of Muse’s eight studio albums have now gone to Number One in the UK, according to the Official Charts Company.

In a four star review, NME described the record as “a retreat from the real world and into a ‘Tron’-style pastiche of their own adolescence.”

Produced by Rich Costey, Mike Elizondo, Shellback and Timbaland, ‘Simulation Theory’ was released earlier this month.

The Number One victory coincides with the sale of tickets for their 2019 UK and Europe stadium tour this morning (November 16), which includes two huge shows in London and Manchester.

Tickets to the June shows are on sale now and available here.

Monday December 03 2018 – LONDON Royal Albert Hall
Saturday June 1 2019 – LONDON Stadium
Saturday June 8 2019 – MANCHESTER Etihad Stadium

Meanwhile, a fan has created their own parody of the rock giants in ‘Orwellian Rebellion’, which sounds surprisingly like the real thing.

Elsewhere in the UK album charts, The Beatles‘ 50th-anniversary reissue of their self-titled album, also known as ‘The White Album’, went in at Number Four.

The collection spent eight weeks at the top upon its original release in December 1968.

In the official singles chart, Ariana Grande’s ‘thank u, next’ holds on to the Number One spot for a second week.

The song achieved the biggest weekly UK streaming figures of any track so far this year, with 9.76 million plays. It’s the highest since Luis Fonsi’s ‘Despacito’ racked up 10.6 million UK streams in a week in May 2017.

‘thank u, next’ has posted a combined downloads and streaming equivalent sales figure of 95,000 – more than double its closest rival, ‘Shallow’ by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
