The band could be set to follow on from this year's star performer, Justin Timberlake, at the NFL showpiece game in 2019

Maroon 5 are reportedly being eyed by the NFL to headline the Halftime Show at the 2019 Super Bowl.

The honour of hosting the show has only increased in recent years, with headline performers in the past few years including Lady Gaga, Coldplay and Katy Perry. Justin Timberlake performed during the 2018 Halftime Show earlier this year.

Variety is now reporting that Maroon 5 are being sought to headline the 2019 Super Bowl Halftime Show, citing two anonymous sources. Representatives for both the band and the NFL have not responded to the new reports.

Maroon 5 last released an album in June 2017 with ‘Red Pill Blues’. The Adam Levine-fronted band have also branched out into collaborations in recent years, including Kendrick Lamar (on ‘Don’t Wanna Know’) and Cardi B (on a remixed version of ‘Girls Like You’). If the group are confirmed as headliners, then speculation will then centre on which guest acts they may invite on stage with them during the Halftime Show.

The 2019 Super Bowl will be played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on February 3, 2019.

Back in August, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine apologised after he erroneously criticised MTV for ‘snubbing’ Childish Gambino during this year’s VMAs.
