Macaulay Culkin's pizza-themed Velvet Underground cover band, Pizza Underground, was served an unfortunate combo of boos and beer cans during a set at the Dot to Dot Festival in Nottingham, England, according to the Nottingham Post.

While the band was able to squeeze in a few of their comedic renditions of classic Velvet Underground and Lou Reed tracks — like "It's a Pizza Day," aka Reed's "Perfect Day" — the crowd quickly soured to the shtick and Culkin called it quits after just 15 minutes.

When the boos and brews started flying, Culkin tried to keep things light, asking the audience, "Why are you throwing those? I'd rather drink them!" Security did eject some of the culprits, but after a few more cans conked Culkin and his band, the actor-turned-singer announced the show was over and led the group off stage.

The Pizza Underground had already played a handful of other shows around the U.K. as part of the Dot to Dot festival, and organizers responded to the incident saying, "After barnstorming sets at both Dot To Dot Manchester and Dot To Dot Bristol, it's such a shame that some members of the crowd had to ruin what was set to be an excellent show. A sentiment echoed by the band themselves."

Culkin started Pizza Underground late last year, recording a nine-song demo at his house, complete with tracks like "Papa John Says," "I'm Beginning to Eat the Slice" and "All the Pizza Parties." The group has a few more U.K. dates lined up before returning stateside, where they'll play a show at New York City's Le Poisson Rouge on June 12th. The group is scheduled to play Riot Fest in Chicago and Denver, taking place September 12th - 14th, and September 19th - 21st, respectively.
