It's the first release since 2014

Museum of Love – the duo made up of LCD Soundsystem’s Pat Mahoney and Jee Day’s Dennis McNany – have released a new song, their first in four years.

Called ‘Marching Orders’, the song was described as “a labour of love” by the duo in a press release.

They added: “We worked whenever we could for the past three years, 2 weeks [and] six months off, between Pat’s busy tour schedule with LCD and Dennis’ working on film scores and new Jee Day releases.”

The duo also revealed that they were kick out of a new recording studio they built for the project. They said: “We had a bunch of unfinished material from the first record and we’re working on new material whenever we could.

“We worked in home studios; we built our own recording studio in Dumbo to write and track the new material; and, when we were kicked out of that, we snuck into DFA studios as the building was about to be gutted and finished an album’s worth of new material with all the limited time and resources we had. The single is the first product of our efforts.”

The duo also said that the new song hints at what fans can expect to hear with more of their new material. They added: “Picking up where the 1st record left off, this single hints at that new material: caravan songs, about moving and moving on.

“An exercise in slapping ourselves in the face, taking stock of the moment we’re in and then out of. To explore the elephantine sadness that plagues us as we find ourselves complicit in our own extinction. Why do we love? Who do we love? For what do we fight? When faced with displacement how do you keep moving, and whistling on your way?”

Meanwhile, LCD Soundsystem have announced a new live album titled ‘Electric Lady Sessions’ and shared its first track – a cover of Heaven 17’s ‘(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang’.

The new album was recorded live at New York’s famous Electric Lady Studios. The LP is yet to have a specific release date, but it is expected to arrive before the end of the year via DFA/Columbia Records.

This cover follows the release of the band’s mash-up of Chic’s 1979 hit ‘I Want Your Love’ with their own song ‘Home’ – taken from their 2010 album ‘This Is Happening.’
