The biographer of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain has said that Courtney Love wrote the note found in Cobain's wallet which was recently released by Seattle police.

The note was published by CBS and hinted at matrimonial disharmony between Cobain and his wife. Written on note paper from the Phoenix Hotel in San Francisco, Cobain's note mocks his marriage vows. The note, initially said to be written by Cobain reads: "'Do you Kurt Cobain take Courtney Michelle Love to be your lawful shredded wife. Even when she’s a bitch with zits and siphoning all yr money for doping and whoring.'"

The note was discovered by police in Cobain's wallet following his suicide in 1994 but was only recently released. Charles R Cross, author of the 2001 Cobain biography Heavier Than Heaven, has now said that Cobain did not write the letter, but Love did, adding that she emailed him to say as such, giving the note to Cobain before their 1991 wedding. The Guardian reports that according to Cross, the couple often wrote each other tongue-in-cheek notes and that this one is in Love's handwriting.

Kurt Cobain was aged 27 when he was found dead of a shotgun wound in his home on Lake Washington Boulevard on April 8, 1994. He was found by an electrician who had come to do some work on the house. The police investigation determined that Cobain had committed suicide three days before, on April 5.
