Kala Brown, woman rescued from serial killer, reacts to reference from Eminem
"We fully know and understand Eminem’s style of rap music"
A woman who was saved from a serial killer who kept her captive has reacted after being referenced on a new track by Eminem.
In 2016, Kala Brown was found chained in a storage container at the South Caroline home of serial killer Todd Kohlhepp.
On ‘The Ringer’, the opening track to new album ‘Kamikaze’, Eminem raps: ““Bitch, I’m off the chain like Kala Brown.”
Now, Brown has responded for the first time after the lyric saw Eminem facing condemnation.
“We have seen all of the attention regarding Eminem referencing Kala in one of his newly released songs”, a spokesperson for Brown confirmed.
“At this time, given we fully know and understand Eminem’s style of rap music (it can come off a little unnerving) but she does not want to take offence or feel as if he is attacking her personally. It was a clever line that rhymed and we’d like to leave it at that.”
Brown’s spokesperson added: “Everyone expresses themselves in their own way, and if anything, people will always feel a flash of Kala’s struggle when hearing that line.”
Before being rescued in 2016, Brown spent over two months in a metal container on Kohlhepp’s property before police eventually found her. She later told authorities that she had witnessed Kohlhepp shoot and kill her boyfriend, one of the seven murders Kohlhepp admitted to.
The reference is the latest controversy to face the record – with Eminem recently facing criticism from Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds for using ‘homophobic’ language on the record.
