The musician helped his mum celebrate her 88th birthday with a nod to her heritage

Jack White led a crowd in singing a Polish birthday song to his mother as he performed in Warsaw last night (October 9).

The musician’s mother, Teresa Gillis (née Bandyk), is of Polish heritage and was in attendance at her son’s concert in the country’s capital city yesterday.

According to reports, White brought his mum out on stage and had the crowd sing ‘Sto lat’, a Polish birthday song, to her. The star’s no-phones policy at his shows means there is no footage of the moment, but a photo of White and Gillis onstage together was posted on White’s official Instagram page.

Meanwhile, one of White’s rarest recordings has been unearthed. Third Man Records co-founder and White Stripes archivist Ben Blackwell discovered a tape recording by band 400 Pounds Of Punk that White had worked as a session engineer on.

The cassette features a cover of Blondie‘s ‘One Way Or Another’, on which White took on vocal duties. The recording was, according to Blackwell, “completely undocumented” until now.

Last month, a new documentary titled Jack White: Kneeling At The Anthem D.C. was released by Amazon. The film featured previously unseen live footage, as well as scenes of the musician exploring America’s capital city.

The documentary was accompanied by a six-song live EP that included recordings from White’s performance at D.C. venue The Anthem.
