ITV has announced details of a new music TV talent show called Rising Star.

The television channel, which recently signed a new £140 million three-year deal with Simon Cowell's X Factor franchise, also broadcasts Britain's Got Talent.

The new show will let viewers vote at home in real-time during performances via a free app.

In the programme, contestants will walk onto a stage to begin a live screen test, Music Week reports. If the contestant gets a 70 per cent approval rating from voters at home and the panel of four judges, they will go through to the next round.

Rising Star made its debut on Israel's Channel 2 in September (2013). There is not yet a broadcast date for the UK version.

"The bold real-time voting element means that viewers’ votes control every twist and turn of the live programme – and that makes for an incredibly dramatic, emotional and exciting show," said Elaine Bedell, director of entertainment and comedy at TV production company Keshet International, which is behind the show.

Keshet international's managing director, Alon Shtruzman added: "ITV's track record in launching globally successful music and talent shows makes it the natural UK home for the groundbreaking Rising Star."
