They're off to Liverpool...

The latest edition of the BBC Radio 6 Music Festival will take place in Liverpool for the first time ever.

The event was confirmed by DJ Lauren Laverne earlier this morning and will see a variety of acts heading to a selection of venues from March 29-31.

As well as performances from the likes of 2ManyDJs, Bodega, Hot Chip, IDLES, Jon Hopkins, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Anna Calvi and Bill Ryder-Jones, fans can also expect in conversation events and poetry at venues including the Liverpool Olympia and the Invisible Wind Factory.

Other acts include Slowthai, Little Simz and upcoming punks Fontaines D.C.

While the festival has taken place since 2014, it’s the first time that it has taken place in Liverpool following stints in Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol and Glasgow. Fans can buy tickets from10AM on Thursday morning.

The announcement from Laverne comes after she took over as 6Music’s Breakfast Show in January 2019.

Discussing the fresh challenge, she previously told NME: “It’s a fresh puzzle, but one of my favourite parts is solving that and hitting our stride and tone that people will connect with and enjoy. It needs different things. One of the greatest things about 6 Music is that although we’ve all got slightly different tastes and backgrounds, everyone gets on and we share that passion for music that makes it work.”
