The band haven't released a studio album since 2006's '10,000 Days'

Tool‘s Maynard James Keenan has given an update on the band’s new album, which they previously promised would be released in 2019.

The Los Angeles rock band have not released a studio album since 2006’s ‘10,000 Days‘. Its long-awaited follow-up was initially expected to be out in 2017 but was delayed.

Yesterday (September 10), Keenan tweeted an update on progress from the studio. “Scratch Vox tracked awhile ago,” he wrote. “[Adam Jones] deep in Guitars now. Final Vox after. Step back. Adjust. Mix. Adjust. Re-Adjust. Master. Adjust. Re-Adjust. Long Way 2 Go But Much Closer.”

It follows an update in February when the frontman said he had started to receive ” music files from the boys w the word FINAL in the title a few months ago after 11 years of begging.” He added that the words and melodies for the new record were “100% DONE on all but 1 [song].”

Keenan previously blamed the long wait for the album on his bandmates’ indecisiveness. “I like to release records and write things a little more quickly than those guys like to write,” he said. “Their process is very analytical.”

In December 2017, Tom Morello told fans he’d heard new music by Tool. He shared a photo of himself with part of the band on Instagram page and captioned the picture: “Had the honour of being the first outsider to hear new #TOOL music today!!” He went on to describe the instrumentals he had listened to as being “epic, majestic, symphonic, brutal, beautiful, tribal, mysterious, deep, sexy and VERY Tool.”

Meanwhile, in April, the band debuted a new track titled ‘Descending’ in a promotional video for their May 2018 tour. It was believed to be an instrumental studio demo of the track, rather than a completed recording.
