The number one might surprise you

Google has revealed the most googled musicians of 2018 in their annual Year in Search report. The report details the top-trending people, topics, events, and places throughout the year.

Pop star Demi Lovato has topped the chart after suffering an overdose back in July – she was later transferred to a rehab facility. She was recently nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Duo for her guest appearance in Christina Aguilera’s track ‘Fall in Line’. Her single ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ reached 4x platinum certification in the US in the summer.

Coming in at second place is the Spice Girls. 2018 was filled with reunion rumours that finally came to fruition last month, when the girl band announced their return.

Third place goes to Cardi B, who released her debut solo album ‘Invasion of Privacy’ back in April. The rapper later made headlines for feuding with Nicki Minaj and splitting from her husband, Migos member Offset.

Childish Gambino is in fourth place, after the release of his political track ‘This is America’. The Hiro Murai-directed clip prompted widespread debate over its provocative delivery and plethora of hidden meanings. Repurposed Jim Crow references and images of gun violence featured in the clip.

Meanwhile, YouTube’s Rewind 2018 video is set to become the streaming service’s most disliked ever. The annual round-ups have featured on the site since 2010, referencing the cultural and musical moments that defined the year.

In 2018’s version, uploaded on December 6, some of the biggest YouTube stars are featured – along with Will Smith. However, many viewers are less than impressed – with the clip having gathered an enormous 8.5 million dislikes in its short lifespan.
