    Gene Simmons Says KISS Won’t Make Another Record Because Of Piracy

    Gene Simmons has blamed illegal file sharing for the fact that KISS won’t be making another record anytime soon.

    Speaking on the SDR radio show, Simmons was asked what keeps the band recording after four decades in the industry.

    “That’s less of an incentive, because downloading and file sharing. People have convinced themselves they don’t wanna pay for stuff,” he said. “And last time I checked, KISS is not a charity. We’re philanthropic, but I’ll be the one that decides how much I give and where.

    “I don’t want some college kid to decide, ‘You have enough money. I don’t wanna pay for your record.’ Okay, then go download and Radiohead record and see what happ… No, ain’t about that.”

    “Make a distinction between commerce and philanthropy. So the idea of doing another Kiss record, unless and if there’s a financial model that works, personally I’m not interested in it.”

    Kiss released their last record, Monster, in 2012. Interestingly, the band didn’t release a record between 1998’s Psycho Circus, and 2009’s Sonic Boom – which mirrors the invention and rise of file sharing software, and the MP3. Guess home taping wasn’t an issue for Simmons.

    Haha, whaat! That Radiohead comment is priceless. I fell off my chair. He shouldn't complain. Their current worldwide tour is pretty successful. So Gene, leave the college kids alone, you rhino!

    @fiorentini - Okay, hands on:

    1. What Gene refers to is Thom Yorke's (Radiohead's front-man) album Tomorrow's Modern Boxes, which he released via BitTorrent in 2014. It wasn't exactly free, but there were some perks revolving around it.
    2. I LMAO'd because I recall that moment. A lot of artists booed Thom because of his decision.
    3. I'm bashing Gene Simmons, because he's an angry old-timer talking trash.

    I like KI$$ though, don't get me wrong.

    ROTL-LMFAO, I guess some stars still like screaming their lungs out from the top of their ivory tower that the world is doing them "So Wrong".

    I guess for some, enough money is never enough, and TBH, I've never been a kiss fan. I do like a few of their tracks from their Dynasty album, and "Shandi" from 1980, but the rest is pretty so and so.

    the last 2 albums from kiss wasn't really good anyway, their shows are nice especially when they are having fun to play but they will never be abel to make an album like they did in their classic time.

    I guess a lot music artists are happy when people like their music no matter if they get paid or not.
    Well Kiss will still remain an amazing Band, playing till they die on stage one day.

    Its really a good questions what mr. simmons want with the money - i guess it must be a bit more difficult here.
    Maybe he just wants the feeling from sucessfull marketing and economizing.
