Although post-hardcore trailblazers Fugazi have been enjoying a lengthy hiatus since their last gig in 2002, the band is putting out its first studio-recorded release in over a decade later this year. The catch is that they recorded the release, First Demo, more than a quarter of a century ago. It will be available on CD, LP and MP3.

As reported on label Dischord's website, the group entered Inner Ear Studio in January 1988 after playing only 10 shows to record 11 songs "to see what their music sounded like on tape." The band went on to circulate 10 of those tunes on cassettes that it gave away at concerts, where they asked fans to dub them for their friends. The only officially released tune from those sessions was "In Defense of Humans," which appeared on the 1989 comp State of the Union, a benefit for the ACLU and the Community for Creative Non-Violence.

First Demo will include all 11 tracks that the group recorded at that session, including "Turn Off Your Guns," which they had left off the original cassette. The record has been newly mastered by TJ Lipple.

The release coincides with the final upload of the band's initial round of Fugazi Live Series releases, which chronicle all of the band's live activities form the late Eighties until its hiatus began in 2002. Three years ago, the group began posting information about every concert it ever played, including recordings of nearly 900 shows. The group is continuing to mark its most recent uploads on the Fugazi Live Series website.
