"I don't think it's something I can really prepare for"

Frightened Rabbit are set to return to the stage tomorrow in Scotland for a tribute show to late frontman Scott Hutchison.

Scott Hutchison then died in May when he took his own life. Tomorrow, the band will remember him at a special charity show.

Billed as The Songs of Frightened Rabbit, brother and drummer Grant Hutchison will be performing with the band’s Billy Kennedy and Andy Monaghan, joined by a series of special guests on vocals, including The Twilight Sad‘s James Graham. Money raised will go to Social Bite, in aid of helping the homeless, as the Scott Hutchison Foundation.

“It seemed like the right thing to do, and like a natural thing to do – to make a positive thing out of something that personally was a very tragic event – to be able to help two charities and two causes, and also to play with people that are good friends,” Grant told the BBC.

“I don’t think it’s something I can really prepare for. It’s going to be highly emotional, but I think the setting for it, both physically and the fact that it’s a charity event for Social Bite, means it’s a positive way to do that for the first time.

“I think I’ll be more nervous than I’ve ever been for a Frightened Rabbit gig before. It’ll be strange.”

Speaking of the impact of his passing the band’s plans for the future, Grant added: “All of us are dealing with Scott’s death on a personal level. It’s been seven months, that’s a very short time.

“We do have something planned for next year which was meant to happen this year which we’ll hopefully announce at the start of the year.”

The show will be part of the Scotland-wide event ‘Sleep In The Park‘ event, which also takes place in Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh. Frightened Rabbit played the event last year at the Edinburgh leg. The event aims to raise around £6million to help combat homelessness, and is set to be attended by 12,000 people.

This comes after this week saw members of Death Cab For Cutie, The National and more come together for a special tribute show to Scott Hutchison in New York.

Earlier this year,

This comes after Grant gave his first interview since Scott’s passing to deliver a powerful and emotional message about mental health.

“One of the main things about this is to realise and understand that this is not just Scott,” said Grant. “Anyone can go through things like this. Yes, there are certain triggers and certain people who may be more susceptible to it but there are no rules. Mental illness isn’t something that anyone’s immune to.”

“So one person’s life who works in a supermarket or is a joiner or who works at a radio station is just as important as a singer in a band.”

Frightened Rabbit released six albums together, while Scott also had a solo album under the name Owl John.

Last month, his other band Mastersystem shared the video for ‘Old Team’ in his memory. Formed as a side-project with Frightened Rabbit bandmate Grant Hutchison along with Editors‘ Justin Lockey and Minor Victories’ bandmate James, Mastersystem released their acclaimed debut album ‘Dance Music‘ back in April.
