Could this be their next historic moment?

Arctic Monkeys fans have launched a petition for the band to play a huge gig at the legendary Knebworth Park.

The band, who are currently in the midst of a UK arena tour to promote their acclaimed 2018 album ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino‘, currently have no dates scheduled for 2019 – but are rumoured to headline either Glastonbury or Reading & Leeds festival.

Now, there’s a fan campaign for the Sheffield indie veterans to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Oasis and The Rolling Stones by playing a historic gig at the 125,000 capacity Knebworth Park.

“Arctic Monkeys have established themselves as a truly iconic British band,” the petition reads. “Having released their ambitious sixth album earlier this year, followed by an astounding run of recent live performances, it’s time for Arctic Monkeys to join the list of legendary artists (Led Zeppelin, Oasis, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Queen and more) to perform at Knebworth Park. A concert (or series of concerts) at the legendary outdoor venue would be a worthy celebration of the greatest British band of this century.”

They continued: “The event would also allow the band to select a range of excellent artists to perform alongside them, creating an unmissable music festival. Six consecutive number one UK albums proves the mass popularity of Arctic Monkeys. It’s important to celebrate brilliant bands at their peak and this would be a truly memorable gathering.

“Arctic Monkeys deserve their place in Knebworth history.”

The petition has been shared on social media by Clive Helders, father of drummer Matt, following in the footsteps of another recent petition which was signed by thousands – calling for the BBC to make a special about the band. A special was later made and aired back in June.

The band capped of their campaign for previous album ‘AM’ with two huge shows at London’s Finsbury Park.

This week sees the band’s tour head to their hometown with a run of shows in Sheffield – where fans will be opening an unofficial fan village for the week.
