Calvin Harris and Sam Smith also celebrate in the singles chart

Eminem has beaten IDLES to the number one spot in the official UK album chart.

The rapper’s tenth studio album ‘Kamikaze’ scored combined chart sales of 55,000 over the past week, outstripping his nearest competition – the Motion Picture Cast Recording to ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ – by three copies to one, according to the Official Charts Company.

In the mid-week chart IDLES’ new album ‘Joy As An Act Of Resistance’ was competing with Eminem for the top spot at number two but fell away slightly ending the week at number five.

It did claim the best-selling release on vinyl this week though.

‘Kamikaze’ is Eminem’s his ninth consecutive chart topper, meaning he now has more successive number ones than any other act in UK chart history.

He previously shared the record with Led Zeppelin and ABBA who held it jointly for 36 years with a run of eight unbroken chart toppers apiece.

It is also the fourth fastest-selling release of 2018 so far behind Arctic Monkeys’ Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino‘, Drake’s ‘Scorpion’ and George Ezra’s recent album ‘Staying At Tamara’s’.

Meanwhile, The Kooks’ new album ‘Let’s Go Sunshine’ went in at number nine, their highest chart position in a decade, while Anna Calvi earned her highest charting album ever at 22 with ‘Hunter’.

In the UK singles chart, Calvin Harris and Sam Smith’s new single ‘Promises’ has gone straight in at number one and Eminem has gone in at number four with new single ‘Ringer’.

Meanwhile, Eminem is already back in the studio working on new material – and it it could be a response to Machine Gun Kelly.
