Dr Dre’s Apple TV series dropped over scenes of drug use and violence
It's unknown if the project will be picked up by another channel...
A TV show based on the life of Dr Dre was reportedly pulled by Apple boss Tim Cook, after he grew concerned over its heavy focus on violence, sex and drug use.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Vital Signs was deemed inappropriate for Apple’s audience as it featured “characters doing lines of cocaine, an extended orgy in a mansion and drawn guns”.
Although it’s unknown if the show will be picked up by another channel, it’s not the only project to receive restrictions after seemingly proving too risque for Amazon.
A forthcoming psychological thriller from M Night Shymalan “about a couple who lose a young child” was only approved after they agreed to “eliminate the crucifixes” within the family’s home.
Apple also reportedly refused to back a #MeToo inspired show that was set at a US university.
Despite cancelling the Dre show, Apple has signed up major players ahead of its foray into TV – including Chris Evans, Oprah, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston.
The show would mark the second time that Dre’s life has been dramatised, after the 2015 NWA biopic ‘Straight Outta Compton’.
Although receiving acclaim upon release, the film’s production was overshadowed by controversy after Death Records founder Suge Knight was involved in a hit-and-run incident near the set.
The former hip-hop titan admitted the crime last week and is set to receive 28 years in jail.
