‘MILLION DOLLAR LOAN’ IS THE FIRST OF 30 ANTI-TRUMP TRACKS YOU’LL HEAR IN THE NEXT MONTH

Alt-rockers Death Cab for Cutie have dropped a blistering anti–Donald Trump song, and being so bitter never sounded so sweet.

The group’s “Million Dollar Loan” was written in response to a statement Trump made early in his presidential campaign, when he dubiously claimed to be a self-made man by building his fortune on a “small loan of a million dollars” he received from his father. Death Cab’s new cut is packed with sarcastic, scathing lyrics (“Every ascension to a throne starts with a million dollar loan”), but in true DCFC fashion, Ben Gibbard’s soothing voice and gentle acoustics make it surprisingly catchy.

In a statement, Gibbard wrote of the Republican presidential nominee, “Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unworthy of the honor and responsibility of being President of the United States of America, and in no way, shape or form represents what this country truly stands for. He is beneath us.”

“Million Dollar Loan” is the first track from 30 Days, 30 Songs, a monthlong project created by writer Dave Eggers. A new anti-Trump song will debut at noon ET each day up until Election Day (November 8), and will include new or unheard material from R.E.M., Jim James, My Morning Jacket, and more. Proceeds from the project will go to the Center for Popular Democracy, which works to register all American citizens to vote.

The 30 Days, 30 Songs playlist can be seen on the project’s official website, Spotify, and Apple Music.
