Let's hope they don't get their baps out

The Darkness will perform their 2003 Christmas hit ‘Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)’ on The Great British Bake Off Christmas Special on Christmas Day.

The single reached number two in the UK singles chart back in 2003, beaten by Gary Jules And Michael Andrews’ cover of Tears For Fears’ 80s hit ‘Mad World’, which had featured in Donnie Darko.

The Channel 4 show will air at 8pm on Christmas Day, and will welcome back 2017 contestants Liam Charles and Flo Atkins, as well as Jane Beedle and Andrew Smyth from 2016, as they all battle it out for Christmas Star Baker.

Meanwhile, the band have also released a new version of the track, just in time for the 2018 festive season. ‘Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End) Live At Hammersmith’ was recorded at their headline show at Hammersmith Apollo last year.

“As Santa prepares to empty his sack into our collective Christmas chimney, and young faces smeared with festive brandy butter gaze up expectantly, every day is a fun-filled festive frolic of presents and pies,” frontman Justin Hawkins said of the release. “Much as you will enjoy your turkey leftovers on Boxing Day, we are serving up Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End) again, this time in a tasty live sauce. Hooray, eh? A rocking good Christmas to one and all!”

Last year, the band released their Top 10 studio album ‘Pinewood Smile’. In 2019, they headline Ramblin’ Man Fair in Maidstone on July 19 and have promised fans to expect new material.
