QUEENSLANDER Christine Anu is coming back to her home state to play the Teen Angel in Harvest Rain Theatre Company’s runaway production Grease - The Arena Spectacular.

The show played at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre last April with Dami Im in the role. Jemma Rix has also starred as the Teen Angel.

Anu, who is from Cairns originally, stepped in as the Teen Angel for shows in Sydney in January and she will reprise the role in Brisbane for two shows on July 14 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre with tickets on sale from today.

The show has played to packed houses in Newcastle, Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne and was such a hit here it is being brought back and it will then roll on to Canberra and Perth.

Harvest Rain’s artistic director Tim O’Connor says it’s wonderful to have Australia’s most iconic female indigenous performer donning the wings for the role.

“Teen Angel is traditionally played by a male, but we really wanted to mix things up in this new production,” O’Connor says.

Teen Angel appears when Frenchie (Stacey de Waard) has just dropped out of beauty school and is feeling lost and looking for guidance, and we couldn't think of anything more fitting for 2018 than for that advice to come from a kick-ass female.

And you really can’t get more kick-ass than Christine Anu. She’s an Aussie legend and we're so pleased to be welcoming her into the cast again.”

She will sing Teen Angel’s signature number Beauty School Dropout. The show also features memorable hits including You’re The One That I Want and Grease is the Word, among others.

Joining Anu on stage will be Meghan O’Shea as star-crossed lover Sandy, and Damon Wade as Danny. The Footy Show’s Beau Ryan takes on the role of DJ Vince Fontaine and Lauren McKenna plays Jan.

Anu will release a new single duet With You with Greg Gould through ABC music on Friday.

She will also be touring the east coast with her acclaimed Conversation and Song tour.
