Check out Red Hot Chili Peppers covering Jimi Hendrix’ ‘Purple Haze’
The band performed a special set at a charity event in LA last weekend
Red Hot Chili Peppers have covered Jimi Hendrix‘ classic track ‘Purple Haze’. Check out footage below.
The California band performed at an event held in honour of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Mo Ostin on Saturday (September 29). The 91-year-old record industry exec has previously worked with RHCP – along with The Beach Boys and Frank Sinatra.
During a seven-song set at LA’s Silverlake Conservatory of Music gala, Anthony Kiedis and the band offered up their own take on one of Ostin’s legendary artists – Jimi Hendrix. The Chili Peppers’ cover of 1967’s ‘Purple Haze’ followed airings of their own hits ‘By The Way’ and ‘Under The Bridge’.
According to the LA Times, Kiedis also spoke of Mo Ostin’s musical legacy. “Ostin is beyond historically important to this world,” the frontman said. “It was because he loved music. It was his giving heart that cared about music that inspired us to want to make great records and enabled us to want to start this school.”
Meanwhile, it was confirmed last month that Red Hot Chili Peppers are about to head back into the studio.
The upcoming record will be the band’s 12th and the follow-up to 2016’s ‘The Getaway’. In a three-star review, NME said the album featured “a reluctance to take too many risks” but was “progress” from its predecessor, ‘I’m With You‘.
In other news, bassist Flea recently released his memoir Acid For The Children. The book tracks the musician’s “fascinating life story, complete with all the dizzying highs and the gutter lows you’d expect from an LA street rat turned world-famous rock star”.
