They've unveiled new single 'Drug'...

Blink-182 singer Mark Hoppus has joined forces with All Time Low‘s Alex Gaskarth to form new band Simple Creatures.

The pop-punk pair announced news of the band earlier today (January 24) as well as unveiling ‘Drug’, their first track. You can listen to it below, ahead of a full EP arriving in March.

Speaking to Kerrang, Hoppus explained how ‘Drug’ was chosen as the first single after it proved popular when they played it to close friends.

“Drug is always the first song we play people when introducing them to Simple Creatures, so it only makes sense that it’s the first single,” explained Hoppus.

“I love the ratty guitar lead mixed with the thumping kick drum. Lyrically, the song is about being destroyed by the things you love.”

Gaskarth said: “Drug is a song about someone or something you want the most, being terrible for you… Feels great until it doesn’t, but then you can’t stop.

“In the studio it felt immediately like it was the song that best defined Simple Creatures; it’s gritty, grimy, rooted in the musicality we both came up on, but with a twist that takes it away from anything we’ve worked on before.”

However, there’s no risk of Hoppus putting Blink-182 on the back burner. It was recently revealed that they’re working on a new song with The Chainsmokers.

Posting on Twitter, The Chainsmokers wrote: “Just did a session with blink182 and wrote an amazing song. We can die happy now.”
