The frontman has found four tracks from the original sessions that were never finished

Billy Corgan has said Smashing Pumpkins could record new ‘Machina’ songs as work gets underway on the reissue of the 2000 album.

Originally intended to be a double album, the release was instead split into two – with each part released seven months apart.

In an Instagram Q&A, Corgan revealed he had found four songs so far “that were never finished”.

“I think it would be cool to record new versions with James [Iha, guitarist] and Jimmy [Chamberlin, drummer],” he said.

He added that the reissue could include some new singles “if we record new versions of unfinished songs”.

Three-quarters of the original line-up of Smashing Pumpkins reunited earlier this year. Corgan, Iha, and Chamberlin embarked on a full US tour this summer, as well as recently appearing at London’s SSE Arena Wembley.

Next month (November 16), the band will release their first album together in 18 years, titled ‘Shiny And Oh So Bright Vol. 1/LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun’. The band have shared two tracks from the record so far in ‘Solara‘ and ‘Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)‘.

Speaking to NME earlier this month, Chamberlin said the group were “talking about getting back into the studio in January to work on some stuff.”

“We’ve got plenty of material, it’s just a question of logistics as well as what’s the best way to release this stuff in today’s marketplace?” he said. “For a band that’s really album-centred, the market presents some interesting challenges. It’s a ‘one song streaming’ world, but our strength lies in compounding these grand bodies of work that all fit together somehow. There’s a lot of stuff coming down the pipe.”
