The band have updated their website to include a countdown clock that expires in five days

Smashing Pumpkins have hinted that fans will be getting an update of their ‘reunion’ album later this week after updating their website with a countdown clock that expires in five days.

The band haven’t released an album since 2014’s ‘Monuments to an Elegy’, but last month front man Billy Corgan was pictured in the studio with original guitarist and drummer James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin.

Corgan went on to share more photos from the studio, but shot down rumours that Jeff Schroeder would be taking on bass duties after original bassist D’Arcy Wretsky confirmed she wouldn’t be playing any part in the reunion.

Sharing a photo of drum mics, Corgan added: “A pic of the post-drum apocalypse. Sang 5 songs today with a bit of a croak in throat, as this bug persists. But got some lyric fixes in, did some string arranging on 2 songs via an M400 #mellotron, and am set to finish up the work tomorrow. With live strings on Wednesday. Go-go-go…”

Last week, the band shared a photo on their Instagram account suggesting that news was coming soon and urged fans to sign up for updates.

Corgan has also confirmed that Rick Rubin would be producing the record and there were over 26 songs in “in various states of completion, production, insanity”.

Release information and tour dates have yet to be announced, but fans are speculating whether the countdown, which expires on Thursday, means we’re about to find out album details and tour dates.

The seminal band formed in 1988 and released six acclaimed albums until their split in the year 2000. In that time, Wretsky left the band in 1999, while Chamberlain was absent for three years after 1996.

Corgan then reformed the band under various incarnations in 2006 (featuring Chamberlain for a number of years). The band have since released four albums since then, the last was 2014’s acclaimed ‘Monuments To An Elegy’.
