'The Inbetweeners' star is making his directional debut with 'Days Of The Bagnold Summer'

Belle & Sebastian will score Simon Bird’s upcoming film Days Of The Bagnold Summer, it has been announced.

The project – which is an adaptation of Joff Winterhart’s graphic novel – will see The Inbetweeners‘ Bird make his directional debut. Starring in the film are the likes of Rob Brydon, Tamsin Greig, and Earl Cave (The End of the F***ing World).

According to a press release, Days Of The Bagnold Summer is “a tender and funny coming-of-age and an acutely observed portrait of growing pains.”

It tells the story of “a heavy-metal-loving teenager’s holiday plans falling through at the last minute, meaning he has to spend the summer with the person who annoys him most in the world: his mum.”

The official soundtrack will be recorded and organised by the Glaswegian band.

Meanwhile, Belle & Sebastian recently unveiled the line-up for their Mediterranean cruise festival, ‘The Boaty Weekender’. The four-day event will take place next summer – marking the 20th anniversary of the band’s Bowlie Weekender.

Last year, the group released a trilogy of EPs titled ‘How To Solve Our Human Problems’. “With every track, we’ve been trying to push it a little bit, trying to take an idea and run with it,” Murdoch told NME of the project.

“We did them in a bunch of different studios in Glasgow, producing ourselves and just getting our sleeves rolled up which was great. It was good for us and it feels like we can be a bit more adventurous and genuinely takes the music in all of the directions that we want.”
