Beastie Boys have accused toy company GoldieBlox of copyright infringement, after they released a promo that parodies the band's 1987 single 'Girls'.

Scroll down to watch the advert, which has been viewed over 7 million times since it was posted online on November 17. The advert takes the misogynistic lyrics of the original track and replaces them with empowered lines about females taking part in science and engineering industries.

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, the original lyrics are: "Girls - to do the dishes/Girls - to clean up my room/Girls - to do the laundry/Girls - and in the bathroom/Girls, that's all I really want is girls" and the new version has replaced these with: "Girls to build the spaceship/Girls to code the new app/Girls to grow up knowing/That they can engineer that/Girls/That's all we really need is Girls."

The surviving members of the Beastie Boys have since threatened the company with a copyright infringement suit, saying that it is not fair use, as GoldieBlox state. In legal documents the company defends itself by writing: "GoldieBlox created its parody video with specific goals to make fun of the Beastie Boys song, and to further the company's goal to break down gender stereotypes and to encourage young girls to engage in activities that challenge their intellect, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. The GoldieBlox 'Girls' Parody Video has gone viral on the Internet, and has been recognized by the press and the public as a parody and criticism of the original song."

Meanwhile, Ad-Rock and Mike D have reportedly signed a deal to release their memoirs in 2015. Adam 'MCA' Yauch of Beastie Boys died in 2012. Yauch was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and succumbed to the disease on May 4, 2012, aged 47.
