Aussie Songwriter's Track Picked As UK Entry For Eurovision 2018
Following this week's announcement that Essex singer SuRie will represent UK in this year's Eurovision, it has been revealed that their entry song, Storm, was co-written by one of Australia's own.
The Music can reveal that Queensland songwriter Nicole Blair is behind the ballad, which was created with co-writers Gil Lewis and Sean Hargreaves during a one-day writing camp at London's Tileyard Studios.
This will be the second time that the 24-year-old has produced songs for Eurovision, after getting a taste in last year's competition.
"It's quite a different process [writing for Eurovision]," Blair told The Music.
"The first time I experienced writing for Eurovision was last year. The main elements for me are that I like to make the concept and lyrics very positive, something that is bold that will resonate with the Eurovision audience.
"It's really important to try and think what the whole of Europe wants musically as well."
Since moving to London in 2016, Blair has worked with a number of big-name acts, including Mike Perry and Uberjak'd.
"I had already met Tileyard Music when I was writing in Stockholm a few years before I moved to the UK," Blair recalled.
"Tileyard took me under their wing when I moved to London and then I was lucky enough to sign my publishing with them."
SuRie will perform Storm at the 2018 contest in Portugal this May, alongside Jessica Mauboy who is representing Australia this year.
