The adapter has been free with all iPhone purchases since being introduced in 2016

Apple will no longer include dongles free of charge with new iPhones, according to reports.

The adapter was introduced in 2016 with the iPhone 7 when the headphone jack was removed from the device. It makes it possible to connect traditional headphones to the smartphones.

The change will come into play with the new generation of iPhones, which were launched today and include the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, as The Verge reports. Dongles will not be provided with iPhones 8 going forward either. Customers will now have to purchase them separately at an additional cost of £9.

iPhones that still feature traditional headphone jacks – the iPhone X, 6S, and SE – will also be discontinued.

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Apple will add 70 new emoji to its library in an iOS update later this year. The new emoji will include red-headed, grey-haired, and curly-haired people, a cupcake, a superhero, an infinity symbol, and more.

Meanwhile, the tech giant confirmed last year it intentionally slows down old iPhones to “prolong battery life”.

Reddit users had speculated that iOS updates had caused their old phones to slow down, and had reported replacing the batteries had returned them to their former speeds.

“Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices,” Apple said in a statement. “Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components.”
