Perry had been playing live with Billy Joel

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry is in a stable condition after being rushed to hospital when he collapsed at a gig.

Perry made a guest performance at Billy Joel‘s Madison Square Garden show last night (November 10), where he performed Aerosmith’s 1975 hit ‘Walk This Way’.

According to TMZ, however, he collapsed in his dressing room immediately after the gig, and “looked terrible”.

Paramedics reportedly treated Perry on the scene, “placing a tracheal tube down his throat to clear the air path”, before taking him to hospital.

Representatives for Perry have now confirmed that he’s in a stable condition after receiving hospital treatment.

“Following a guest performance during Billy Joel’s show last night at Madison Square Garden, Joe Perry experienced shortness of breath and was treated backstage by paramedics who gave the guitarist oxygen and used a tracheal tube to clear his airway before taking him to a hospital. This morning, Perry remains in the hospital where he is alert and responsive”, a representative for Perry confirmed.

“The Aerosmith guitarist will be unable to appear today at Rock And Roll Fantasy Camp in Florida and apologizes to those attending. Perry is expected to return to the road later this month.”

Before the show, both Perry and Joel shared a photo of the two musicians together.

US radio personality Eddie Trunk, a close friend of Perry, also confirmed that he is “doing well”.

Aerosmith are due to mark their 50th anniversary as a band with a Las Vegas residency next year. It is not yet known whether these reports will impact that.

Perry confirmed the news earlier this year. “We’re going to be doing a residency in Vegas starting next spring”, he said.

“What we want to do is something that I haven’t seen before… just downsizing our live show, just playing in a smaller place. We want to do something different. We’re in the middle of the production now. What we’re talking about is having an experience that you wouldn’t be able to see on a regular Aerosmith tour.”

Describing what to expect, he explained: “I feel like we’ve been out of the wind for a while and it seems like it would be a really cool thing to bring some of the history back.

“The production is gonna look like that. But without losing what we are: a hardcore rock and roll band. We’re having almost weekly conversations about the production and how we’re gonna keep it true and honest to the heartbeat of the rock and roll that we play but still add an element that people will want to see.

I haven’t been this excited about a project with Aerosmith in quite a while.”

In 2016, Perry also collapsed at a Hollywood Vampires gig.
