A birthday message posted by Adele on Twitter this weekend appears to be a teaser to her new album.

Writing to fans on Sunday (May 4), the singer bid farewell to her 25th year in anticipation of her 26th birthday yesterday (May 5) with the caption that she would "see" 25 "later in the year". Given that her previous albums were named after the age she was when she wrote them – '19' and '21' respectively, the message has led to speculation that her third album could be released this year.

Earlier this year, OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder claimed that he was working on a new Adele album, although he had no idea when the record would be released. The singer had previously worked with Adele on '21' – co-penning songs including 'Rumour Has It' and 'Turning Tables'.

Last year, Phil Collins also claimed that he was writing songs with her.
