Aussie band 5 Seconds of Summer are global chart-slayers, claiming the summit of the US Billboard Top 200 with their Youngblood album over pop power couple Jay-Z and Beyonce and their surprise record Everything Is Love.

The four pop-rock musicians from Sydney’s western suburbs also created American chart history as the first ever Australian act to have three consecutive records debut at No. 1 in the US.

They replicated their chart-topping feat back home, with the Youngblood album debuting at No. 1 on the ARIA charts alongside the single of the same name, which has spent five weeks on top.

“To have our music be received so well and reciprocated in our home country has been the proudest feeling in the world,” the band said in a statement.

“To have Youngblood go number one was the cherry on top.

“Thank you from the bottom of our souls to everyone who has supported this band throughout this chapter of our career. There’s still so much to come.”

The band were in a tight race with Beyonce and Jay-Z, comeback pop queen Christina Aguilera and rapper Nas to claim No. 1 in America with their third record.

The Australian rockers revved up their 5SOS Fam — the millions of fans committed to supporting the band via social media, streaming services and music stores — as it became clear last week they were neck-and-neck with Bey and Jay.

Their old mate Niall Horan, who is on the same label and shares management with the band, got in on the act, tweeting “This has got to be the number 1 record this week. Go get it!”

Youngblood follows the band’s self-titled 2014 debut and 2015’s Sounds Good Feels Good in debuting at No. 1 on the ARIA charts in Australia.

They are one of only seven Australian artists to have their first three albums debut at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart, with 5SOS joining Jimmy Barnes, The 12th Man, Silverchair, Delta Goodrem, Missy Higgins and Pete Murray.

You would think there was a slew of homegrown music heroes who could lay claim to having had a single and album at the top of the Australian charts on the same week.

But chart history reveals it is a rare event and the last time it happened was way back in 2011 when Gotye completed the double with his global smash Somebody That I Used To Know and album Making Mirrors.

5SOS return home in August for their Meet You There tour.
