    Space Management

What are the best practices for space management on a seedbox?

Do you guys purchase larger seedboxes? Or do you transfer old stuff to a cloud drive/VPS and re-transfer/re-upload when there is a re-seed request?

Personally, I use a larger seedbox. When worst comes to worst I transfer out and reseed when requested. I try to seed everything I can for as long as I can. I have been in situations where i wanted something, but there was 1 or 0 seeders.

Depending on the seedbox provider, you could compress the files to a smaller size via the tools available on the seedbox. In my case, I have two boxes. I have one that I reseed on and one that I off load to after compressing the files. Not everyone can afford this option as that is expensive, but for me, it works nicely.

    I hope this helps.

@buttlove What's the method used to compress the files? Do the compressed files have to be restored to their original size before reseeding?

@hellogoodbye So, this is just my practice... if I need to have some space freed up, i will download the file, compress the file via handbrake and re-upload the file. I keep the other file store on a different location (HDD) in a RAR file ready for a file transfer and upload.

Reseeding generally requires the original file size and torrent file, yes. But you could upload the compressed file and create a new torrent. But most of the time it’s best to use the original.

@buttlove What is the compression ratio you are able to achieve? I have compressed MKV files before, but only with a file decrease of about 10-15%. Also, is the Handbrake compression 1:1. In other words, do you lose anything when you decompress the files?

    Sorry for the delay @hellogoodbye

I use the web optimized setting and it shrinks fairly well. I’ll have to look to confirm what the size difference is.
