    Seedbox Hosting Service

Has anyone started their own seedbox hosting service? What's involved? I have some servers I could rent.

@mac011 I have not personally. But I can only imagine it isn’t an easy task. Like any business there are costs involved along with risks.

I would think it’s going to cost quite a bit to get things going. You’d need a data center, most likely, this can give guarantees uptime to the equipment. Also you’re consumption of energy will be billed differently.

Also you have to maintain the servers. Respond to tickets and requests from government officials who might file take down requests.

Plus you have to market the business and hope people like the products you offer. Because there are so many seedboxes available, I would imagine it’s going to be tough to survive. I compare seedboxes to restaurants. They are a dime a dozen and come in and drop out just as quick.

This is all off the cuff and not confirmed as accurate. But thinking about it; starting a seedbox company is costly and time consuming. If you do venture down the path of starting a company, I wish you the best and hope things workout for you.

“The private trackers gamified seeding and rewarded their best members, this is what really paved the way for seedboxes. The users felt a need to compete and often did not have access to the means to do so, but could contract these machines out to help them succeed. The demand for seedboxes started in about 2010, which I think you will see coincided with a huge spike of private tracker activity.”
    Very interesting.

He must feel like streaming is the enemy of torrents.

Thanks for the article @hellogoodbye !
