    try to keep your torrent file size itself below 200k in size
    just seen better speeds this way. You don't want an excessive torrent file size because rtorrent won't add files that are too large unless you ftp them to the watch folder.
    say your pack is 4Gigs in size you can use a piece size of around 512k
    if pack size is 8Gigs then use 1M or 2M piece size
    16Gigs use 4M
    32Gigs or larger use 8M
    don't use piece size larger than 8M because utorrent doesn't accept 16M.
