    Dedicated Server vs Seedbox

    Hello all,

So i've been looking into the different options for Seedboxes and stumbled across VPS (Virtual Private Server). A VPS is basically the same thing as a Seedbox but you have to do all the configuring and setup yourself, they usually cost less, BUT you have to find a VPS provider that allows torrenting. VPS and Seedboxes both share a server (share bandwith) with other users. Although VPS tend to have less users per server from what I'm understanding

There is another method better than both of these called a Dedicated Server. It's like having a VPS, but all to yourself, meaning you don't have to share bandwith with other users.

Here is a Dedicated Server provider I found on reddit. The user stated that he has been using it for torrents as well and has had no problems thus far.

Here you go, and it's even better than a VPS. It's a dedicated server and it's 10 euro a month.

Are they torrent/tor friendly or is it just an VPS? Couldn't find anything about their torrent policy

I use them as a seedbox and do lot's of private torrenting and haven't had any issues.

    To Sum It All Up:

    Seedbox PROS
    • Easy Setup
    • Torrenting Friendly
    Seedbox CONS
    • Shared with many users (possibility of slower bandwidth)
    • High Cost

    VPS PROS
    • Low Cost
    • Shared with less users (possibility of faster bandwidth)
    VPS CONS
    • Manually have to setup configuration for server
    • Possibility of not being torrent-friendly

    Dedicated Server PROS
    • Low Cost
    • Shared with no other users (highest possibility of fastest/most stable bandwidth)
    Dedicated Server CONS
    • Manually have to setup configuration for server
    • Posibility of not being torrent-friendly

Has anyone ever used a VPS or Dedicated Server before? Even if you haven't, please feel free to put your opinion in the mix.

    used both.
a VPS is like using a shared seedbox, you need to share the resources with others who may be using the same server, as well some VPS providers dont allow encoding use.
most EU dedi providers are torrent friendly, it takes a basic knowledge of computers to run a script, but there are so many guides and help forums to ask question and guide you through the process.
I learned from trial and error, unloading scripts and or re-install of OS.
for no hassle go with a semi or dedi option but if u like to tinker, than a unmanaged dedi is for u

It is more up to what you really want. If you just want to be casual, find a low cost VPS from a provider which accepts torrents. If you on the other hand want to push as much as you can 24/7, dedi is what you need.

I ended up going with a ks-3. I plan on using it for my drop box replacement as well!

i'd say the ks2 is the best value. it's advertised as having only 1TB HDD, but it actually has a 2TB HDD.

I have been using few dedicated servers for years and I think that the easiest way to setup configuration is to choose a desktop OS which allows a remote access.

I have never rented a VPS that shared bandwidth before mine have always came with a dedicated line, usually 100 mbit/s. In all honesty I can't think of a single server company that really wants to allow someone store illegal copyright material on their servers. Just because a seedbox company or server reseller says you can torrent on them 9/10 times the actually server company that host the servers forbid it in their TOS.

Now if I am just causally downloading a few torrents then yea a VPS is what I would go for. However if I am a dedicated uploader or very heavy downloader then a dedicated server is what I would go for.
