The world's largest capacity solid state drive is here

Tech company Fixstars has introduced the biggest solid state drive currently available, with a whopping 13 TB of space.

All that space doesn't come cheap, unfortunately. While SSDs are incredible for boosting PC performance, they're more expensive than traditional hard-drives, and the Fixstars 13 TB SSD is no exception. The storage solution will set you back $1 a gigabyte, for a total cost of $13,000 USD.

According to PC World, the SSD will begin shipping at the end of February directly from Fixstars and won't be available through retailers. The SSD has read-write speeds of "up to 580/520 MB/s," according to the manufacturer.

All that space can hold over 1900 hours of broadcast-quality HD video, or about 4.3 hours of uncompressed 4K video running at 60 fps.

Clearly, this particular drive isn't aimed for gamers but rather commercial, high-end applications like streaming video or other uses where speed and capacity are a mitigating factor. "As fewer drives will be needed, it follows that operational costs" will be reduced, the company says on its webpage.

Its very existence means such enormous capacity SSDs are now a reality, and will almost certainly come down in price to eventually live inside everyone's gaming rig. Seems like it would fit in nicely with this insane Star Wars Star Destroyer PC case mod.
