With Windows 10, Microsoft is working to add more customization options for the way the operating system looks and one of the improvements that are already available in the technical preview is the Start menu transparency.

The Start menu was brought back in Windows with the very first technical preview introduced in early October 2014 and since then, Microsoft has been gradually rolling out small enhancements supposed to make it a little more visually appealing and easier to use.

The latest builds finally bring Start menu transparency, which is actually one of the most requested features among insiders, while build 10061 comes with new toggles that let you enable or disable it with just a click.

Of course, the Start menu also comes with resizing support, an option that was available in build 9841 and removed afterwards as Microsoft continued to improve the technical preview. Often requested by users, the resizing feature should allow the Start menu to better fit any desktop out there, regardless of the screen size or the configured resolution.

More customization options

Additionally, you also get new options to customize your desktop and automatically pick a color from the background for the overall look of the operating system. This way, OS colors are changed based on your wallpaper, so the desktop will always look fresh if you change your background regularly.

And last but not least, there are options to show color on taskbar and Start menu, so if you want something else beside the color scheme used by your theme, there’s always the option to revert to the standard and more simplistic interface implemented by Microsoft.

All these changes are available in build 10061 and are also expected to be included in the final version of Windows 10 scheduled to launch in the summer of 2015.
