Microsoft announced at the Build 2016 developer conference today that Windows 10 is already running on 270 million devices, saying that this is the fastest adoption ever recorded by a version of its operating system.

The latest figures provided by Microsoft were released in January when Windows 10 was running on 200 million devices, so the overall stats have been improved by more than 70 million in just 3 months.
Redmond hasn’t offered detailed data to let us know how many of these devices are owned by consumers and how many are enterprises, but the first category is very likely to account for the most part given the fact that Windows 10 is aggressively pushed to their computers and offered as a free upgrade.
Additionally, Redmond revealed that there have been 5 billion visits to the Windows Store since the launch of Windows 10, clearly emphasizing the opportunity that developers have to create apps for the new operating system. Microsoft is hardly working to bring more apps in the store and these figures show that its strategy is taking shape quite nicely.
Last but not least, Microsoft also announced that the official Starbucks and Facebook universal apps are coming to Windows 10 very soon, but no other details have been provided. The term “soon” has become more of a trademark for Microsoft, so don’t hold your breath waiting for the new apps.
