The Windows 10 store will become the one destination for everything designed to download and run on the new operating system, so in addition to apps and games, Microsoft is also adding music, videos, and TV shows. And at some point in the future, the company could even add a separate section for browser extensions, as Microsoft Edge will get such a functionality in late 2015.

But in the meantime, an update that Microsoft has recently rolled out for the Windows Store is adding support for desktop app updates, which means that new versions of software installed on your computer could be downloaded and installed through the store.

Basically, the Windows Store was previously used for Modern apps exclusively, and whenever new versions of these apps were released by their developers, depending on your configuration, the store could download or notify you about the new versions.
Win32 apps in the store

In Windows 10, however, this feature is extended to cover desktop apps too, and as McAkins Online writes, the store has already started providing updates for software that was usually updated through the built-in Windows Update system.

Microsoft has already announced that it plans to bring Win32 apps in the Windows Store and thus create a single destination for basically everything designed to run on Windows 10, and this is the first major step that the company makes in this direction.

Needless to say, such a feature could be extremely helpful for users, who can safely download software from the store and update apps automatically, without the need to check for new versions periodically or to manually install every new release.

Windows 10 will debut on July 29 and the updated Windows Store will be part of the RTM version of the operating system. The store has also received a new UI and more features for Windows 10, and will be offered as a universal app, providing access to the same apps, games, and multimedia content on PCs, tablets, and smartphones running the new operating system
