Windows 10 Already Has Nearly 4 Million Users

Microsoft hasn’t launched Windows 10 yet, but approximately 4 million users are running it already on their devices thanks to the Windows Insider program the company started last year.

The software giant revealed yesterday that 3.9 million users from all over the world installed Windows 10 previews for PCs and phones since October 2014, confirming that interest in the new operating system is growing and more people are curious to see the improvements that everyone is talking about these days.

Needless to say, Microsoft expects these figures to increase in the next few months, as we get closer to the official launch date of Windows 10, which, according to Microsoft executives, should take place in the summer. July or August is very likely to bring us Windows 10, while RTM is reportedly scheduled for June.

“Customers will continue to help us create Windows 10 even after this summer’s initial release, thanks to the 3.9 million and growing Windows Insiders who are helping us build and test Windows 10. We are grateful for this invaluable feedback that is helping us offer the best Windows ever - for businesses and consumers - across all devices,” Microsoft said.

The Windows Insider program will continue

Even though Windows 10 will launch in just a few months, the Windows Insider program will continue, with Microsoft planning to go on with this collaboration with users for the next updates for the core operating system.

The operating system will switch to what Microsoft calls Windows as a Service, so updates would be provided more frequently, which means that insiders would again play a key role in testing them and offering feedback.

The first update for Windows 10 is projected to launch later this year and will most likely include features and improvements suggested by insiders after the launch of the core OS. Microsoft is yet to detail this strategy, but more info will probably be provided when Windows 10 goes live.
