Google has introduced a brand new Chrome extension into the store, which should be pretty handy if you often have to translate the pages you visit while browsing the Internet.

“When you're browsing the web, you might come across a page where some of the text is in a different language. With the new update to the Google Translate Chrome extension, you can translate just that piece of text, without worrying about the rest of the page,” Google’s Chao Tian, software engineer, explains.

All you have to do once the app is installed is to highlight the text you want to translate and click the “translate” icon once it appears. It’s also possible to right click and choose the “Google Translate’ option from the list.

As most Chrome extensions, there’s also an icon that will find space in the area next to your address bar. If you click on that particular button while no text was highlighted, you’ll actually get Google to translate the entire page for you.

“The Translate team is working hard to connect people by breaking language barriers across computers, mobile devices and Internet browsers. Our users make more than 1 billion translations a day, and we hope that our recent update will make their translation tasks a little easier,” Tian adds.

The app is therefore extremely easy to use. If you right click on the icon in the bar, you’ll be able to select your primary language. That’s the one that all text you find will get translated into. You’ll also be able to manage how pop-up translations work. For instance, you can have the app display an icon that you can click to show the pop-up, to immediately display the pop-up or to not show it at all.
