Despite the original statement provided by Spotify and saying that its Windows Phone client would no longer receive update, the company now claims that its plans to offer an official app to Microsoft users haven’t changed, so one in the store would continue getting improvements.

And what’s more, the first update is expected to arrive as soon as today with improved Windows 10 support, which should make Spotify better for devices already upgraded to W10M, including both stable and preview builds.
“Our main goal at Spotify is to offer the best music experience on the market, covering all platforms. To clarify our recent information regarding the Windows Phone experience, we will continue supporting the Windows Phone 8.1 experience moving forward and we are actually improving our support for Windows 10 in our coming update 5.2, which will be available starting today,” the company said.
The update already going live The original statement clearly said that Spotify no longer planned to invest in its Windows Phone client, and although the app was still available in the store, no other updates were being developed.
“We can confirm Windows Phone 8.x is no longer supported. You can still use our Spotify application on the associated devices but it will no longer receive any further updates and download the application. We apologize for the inconvenience,” it added.
And according to reports coming from users across the world, the 5.2 update that Spotify announced today is already going live, but a change log is not yet provided. What we do know, however, is that it’s supposed to work better on Windows 10 devices, including the new Lumia 950 and 950 XL.
We’re still waiting for an official announcement on when the application will go live for everyone, as for the moment it only seems to be available in just a few regions around the world.
