"If you experience issues with authenticating or connecting to file shares on your Mac after you install Security Update 2017-001 for macOS High Sierra 10.13.1, follow these steps to repair file sharing:

1. Open the Terminal app, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
2. Type sudo /usr/libexec/configureLocalKDC and press Return.
3. Enter your administrator password and press Return.
4. Quit the Terminal app."

As it has been coined, the issue has appeared after Apple’s decision to fix the critical “root” security hole. However, if you have not updated your Mac with the security fix, we would recommend you to do so. The file sharing issue is not that big of a deal but only a small price to pay. Nonetheless, updating your device with the serious security update will definitely keep your machine safe. You can quickly fix the file sharing issue so it’s not a problem.

"Security is a top priority for every Apple product, and regrettably we stumbled with this release of macOS.

When our security engineers became aware of the issue Tuesday afternoon, we immediately began working on an update that closes the security hole. This morning, as of 8 a.m., the update is available for download, and starting later today it will be automatically installed on all systems running the latest version (10.13.1) of macOS High Sierra.

We greatly regret this error and we apologize to all Mac users, both for releasing with this vulnerability and for the concern it has caused. Our customers deserve better. We are auditing our development processes to help prevent this from happening again."

The critical security flaw basically allowed individuals to access and change personal files on your Mac, given the access should be physical. Apple has acknowledged and apologized for the vulnerability. Do make sure that you update your device.
