As work on Windows 10 Mobile advances and we’re getting closer to the official launch of the operating system, Microsoft is also updating its Windows Device Recovery Tool with support for more phones in order to allow device owners to restore their phones should something go wrong.

Today, the company has rolled out version 3.1.6, which does just that and brings support for a bunch of non-Lumia phones that are expected to receive the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile when the operating system becomes available.
Specifically, this update includes support for Alcatel One Fierce XL, BLU WIN HD W510U, BLU WIN HD LTE X150Q, and MCJ Madosma Q501, as well as application improvements and bug fixes.
Certainly, these updates come in very handy to insiders who want to install the latest preview builds on their phones and restore them in case something doesn’t work as expected. Furthermore, it can also be used for firmware updates that might not be released OTA.
Windows 10 Mobile is projected to see daylight later this month, at least according to people close to the matter, as Microsoft still remains tight-lipped on timing information for the debut of the new OS. At that point, all Windows Phone devices should be allowed to upgrade free of charge, so the WDRT should become an essential application for more users.
