The Windows 10 Insider Program is going really well, according to Microsoft's very own statistics, and in addition to the 1.5 million users who had already been registered to try out the new operating system and provide feedback and suggestions to improve the built-in features, 173,624 new ones joined the effort after the Wednesday event.

Microsoft revealed a new Windows 10 build on Wednesday at its headquarters in Redmond and also disclosed a little bit more about its Windows 10 for Phones plans, confirming that a new insider program for smartphones would debut in February.

But it appears that Microsoft's press conference was so successful that more than 173,000 people decided to see what Windows 10 is really up to in the first 24 hours after the event came to an end. These statistics were provided by Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider Program, on Twitter today.

Microsoft will ship a new version of Windows 10 Technical Preview next week, which is expected to come with all the improvements we saw on Wednesday.

Cortana, a working version of Continuum, as well as greatly improved Start menus and Start screen are expected to be part of the next build.

Users running the leaked build 9901 should know that a clean install would be required for this version, due to a bug that does not allow the system to be updated through the new built-in system that automatically deploys newly released builds.
