Microsoft has just launched a new version of Skype for Windows Phone, the company's very own VoIP client that's available on all desktop and mobile platforms out there, including Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.

As far as Windows Phone users are concerned, the new version of Skype brings several speed improvements, so the app should now load faster on all devices.

Microsoft hasn't provided any release notes for the new version, but we've indeed spotted some performance enhancements, and several users have confirmed for us that the new version indeed seems to be more responsive on both high-end and low-end Windows Phone models.

Obviously, all users are recommended to get the new version as soon as possible, especially because it's also likely to include additional bug fixes and performance improvements that could contribute to a better experience on your Windows Phone device.

Microsoft hasn't said anything about any other updates for Skype on non-Windows platforms, but the company is working on all versions at the same time, as it wants the VoIP client to provide the same functionality no matter the platform.

This week, for example, Microsoft rolled out a new version of Skype for iOS, and several new updates for other platforms are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

If you want to give the new version a try, just go ahead and download Skype for Windows Phone right now, unless the store has automatically updated your client.
