Microsoft has announced the rechristening of its cloud storage service SkyDrive, which henceforth will be known as OneDrive. The Redmond-based company has registered a domain name — onedrive.com — and also posted a promotional video on YouTube (embedded below).

Microsoft has also come up with a trendy tagline to go with the new name, describing OneDrive as the “One place for everything in your life.” For those who are worried about the existing content, Microsoft’s Ryan Gavin wrote in a post, “For current users of either SkyDrive or SkyDrive Pro, the service will continue to operate as you expect and all of your content will be available on OneDrive and OneDrive for Business respectively as the new name is rolled out across the portfolio.”

The renaming of the cloud storage comes about six months after a UK court ordered Microsoft to change the name since ‘SkyDrive’ infringed a trademark owned by British Sky Broadcasting Group (BSkyB).
